Court denies former Va. gov McDonnell's request for delay

RICHMOND, Va. (WUSA/AP) -- The arraignment and bond hearing for Virginia's former governor and his wife will take place on January 24 as scheduled, court documents say.

Bob McDonnell and Maureen McDonnell are scheduled to make their first court appearance on 14 federal corruption charges on Friday. The former governor's lawyers filed a motion Wednesday to postpone the appearance until Jan. 31. The motion was denied by the court.

The indictment returned Tuesday alleges the McDonnells illegally received thousands of dollars in gifts and loans from a wealthy businessman in exchange for promoting his company's products.
