Lodato's former students as well as local musicians performed songs on the piano.
Carter Long, a fourth grader who was taught by Lodato, performed Beach Party by Nancy and Randall Faber.
"I think she would appreciate the Beach Party because we had this one practice and we never got a chance to play it for her and we wanted to play it here in honor of her," said Long.
According to the NVMTA website, Lodato was a member of the association
"She was always promoting music. She wanted little ones to be educated in music, she did a lot of that herself. She would have enjoyed this," said Debra Gunnerson, chairperson of the Ruthanne Lodato Scholarship Fund.
The Lodato family has created the fund through NVMTA in her memory. The donations to the fund will go towards helping young musicians in financial need pursue music study, according to NVMTA.
You can donate to the fund by writing a check to NVMTA with "Lodato Scholarship Fund" notated on the subject line. Send checks to: Debra Gunnerson, 4509 Hazelnut Ct., Chantilly, VA 20151
