College Park non-citizen voting didn't pass

The city of College Park announced on Friday night that the charter amendment did not receive the required number of affirmative votes to be adopted.

COLLEGE PARK, MD (WUSA9) - There is new information about that College Park decision that would have allowed people who are not U.S. citizens to vote in city elections.

The city of College Park announced on Friday that the charter amendment did not receive the required number of affirmative votes to be adopted.

That vote was taken Tuesday night.

Officials now say changes to the city's charter require the affirmative vote of six elected officials to pass. That's thanks to an amendment to the city charter that was just made in June.

On Tuesday night, only four of the seven voting councilmembers voted yes.
