Arrest made in UMD on-campus robbery

COLLEGE PARK, Md. (WUSA9) -- Police have made an arrest in a University of Maryland robbery that happened March 9 on campus.

Police said they arrested and charged one of the suspects, Mark W. Andrews in connection with the robbery that happened a little after 1 a.m.

Two male students of the university were walking close to South Campus Commons building #1 and #2, when the two suspects approached them, police said.

The suspects demanded property, assaulted one of the victims, took property, and fled the area, police said. One of the suspects ran in the direction of Susquehanna Hall area and the other suspect ran in an unknown direction on campus. Police said no weapons were used.

Detectives were able to get video footage of the incident the path of travel the suspects took. Detectives then applied for and received warrants for the arrest of two non-affiliated subjects.

On Thursday, a court order search warrant was executed at a residence in Riverdale, Md. Andrews was found inside the home and was arrested by members of the University of Maryland Police Department.

Police said Andrews was disorderly during his arrest and was taken straight to Department of Corrections in Hyattsville.

Andrews was charged with two counts of robbery, second degree assault, and theft.
