Chinese tourist hit, killed by truck while crossing road in Laurel

LAUREL, Md. (WUSA9) -- A woman visiting from China died after she was hit by a pickup truck in Laurel on Tuesday night.

According to Maryland State Police, 74-year-old Yanhua Zhu was traveling from Pennsylvania to Washington D.C. and was struck by the truck when attempting to cross Route 1 southbound.

Zhu was visiting from China with her family. She was rushed to Prince George’s Hospital where she was later pronounced dead.

The driver was not injured. Police say there is no indication of impairment at the time of the accident. The cause of the crash has not yet been determined.

The investigation is still open.
