Baby dies after struck by car in Loudoun County

A woman and baby were critically injured in the Landsdowne area after being hit.

LANSDOWNE, Va. (WUSA9) -- The baby who was hit while crossing the street with his mother Wednesday morning has died, Loudoun County school officials said. 

According to Loudoun County Sheriff's Office, the woman and baby were struck by a car in the Lansdowne area. 

The woman and baby were hit around 8:15 a.m. at Riverside Pkwy and Kipheart Drive. Officials said the child was in a stroller when the car hit them. They were allegedly at a crosswalk at the time of the incident. 

Both the woman and baby have been transported to the hospital with life-threatening injuries where the baby later died. 

Officials said the driver did stay at the scene. According to Loudoun County police, the driver has turned over her two cell phones. 

The area is now shutdown due to the investigation.
