Charges pending against man in Virginia barricade

FALLS CHURCH, Va. (WUSA9) -- A man is now in custody after he barricaded himself for hours at a home in Virginia, police said.

The incident started around 9:57 a.m. at a home located on the 3200 block of Kenney Drive. The man had been evicted from the home. Fairfax County Police began negotiations with the man who was inside the home. The SWAT team was also called, police said.

Police continued negotiating with the man until around 9:00 p.m. when he set something in the house on fire. Police then sprayed tear gas into the house and the man surrendered to police.

Fire crews extinguished the fire.

Police say the 44-year-old man was taken into custody under a mental detention order. Charges are pending further investigation.
