Car driven on bike path in Alexandria

Police are still looking for the driver who is seen here driving a Volkswagen sedan onto a busy Alexandria trail Tuesday night during rush hour.

ALEXANDRIA, VA (WUSA9) - Alexandria Police are still looking for the driver who drove onto a bike path Tuesday evening at Fort Mile Run Park Trail in Alexandria.

The park is a sanctuary for cyclists and walkers, but Tuesday at 5 p.m., a peaceful night at the park was interrupted. Video captured by cyclist Trey Harris shows a driver entering the trail, either by accident or to beat rush hour traffic.

“Rush hour traffic can be very bad, but you are not supposed to endanger people and go off road like that,” said cyclist Tomas Imparato.

Police say the story has had a lot of social media shares, but no one had formally called them to make a complaint.

Police say if someone had filed a complaint, it would have greatly helped their investigation.

As of Thursday, police say they still haven’t located the driver. Alexandria police are not commenting on whether the driver faces any charges.
