2 killed in Bowie crash involving ATV and SUV

For the second time this year, people have been killed while illegally riding an off-road ATV in Bowie.

BOWIE, Md. (WUSA9) -- Two people who died while illegally riding and off-road ATV in Bowie late Wednesday were adults and each had children, according to friends at the scene.

The two riders were killed in a head-on collision between the ATV and an SUV.  The SUV driver was not seriously injured.

The crash happened on Race Track Road at Old Chapel Road around 10:53 p.m.

Police have not released the identities of the victims.

Friends at the scene said the man was a 44-year old Annapolis resident and the father of 5.  The woman was from Bowie and had two children, the friends said.

The man enjoyed riding ATVs but his friends were mystified why he was out on a public road at night.
