Truck catches fire on Beltway, driver not injured.

Firefighters are putting out a truck fire outside a Bethesda shopping center.

BETHESDA, MD (WUSA9) - Firefighters responded to box truck fire outside a shopping center in Bethesda Wednesday afternoon, after the driver said his truck caught fire on the Beltway. 

Montgomery County firefighters responded to the Wildwood Shopping Center in the 10300 block of Old Georgetown Road just after 5 p.m.

According to fire officials, the driver was on the Beltway when another motorist notified him that his truck was on fire. He pulled off onto the next exit and parked before the blaze intensified. 

The truck fire was blocking traffic near the intersection of Cheshire Drive; the area is now reopened. 

No injuries were reported and there was no cargo in the truck.

Police say the truck was a total loss.
