FAIRFAX COUNTY, Va. (WUSA9) -- Animal Control officers say they have received several reports of "downed" birds in Fairfax County.
A Fairfax County wildlife biologist identified the birds as Eared Grebes, which have likely been thrown off of their migratory track due to the recent cold weather.
The birds have webbed feet and can typically swim and fly. They are not used to walking so they appear wobbly or injured.
Police say they are coordinating with local veterinarians and the Wildlife Rescue League for a humane re-location of the birds.
Anyone who sees the Eared Grebes should call for an Animal Control Officer at 703-691-4131.
