Dump truck driver who killed Va. mom due in court

ARLINGTON, Va. (WUSA9) -- The dump truck driver charged in connection to a fatal accident that took the life of a mother of three small children is scheduled to appear in court at 2 p.m. Thursday.

Thirty-three-year-old Marvin Valladares from Manassas faces a misdemeanor charge of failing to pay full time and attention.

On February 24, Valladares was driving a dump truck when he hit 39-year-old Jennifer Lawson as she was buckling up one of her three children in her minivan. It happened across the street from Nottingham Elementary School in the 5900 block of North Little Falls Road.

Valladares faces up to 10 days in jail and a $100 fine. Police say he was not speeding, nor was he texting or talking on a cell phone at the time of the incident.
