Crews free man pinned under concrete slab in Arlington

ARLINGTON, VA (WUSA9) - A man who was pinned under a slab of concrete was taken to a hospital in serious condition, Arlington Fire Department officials said.

It happened in the 4700 block of Old Dominion Drive around 2:30 p.m. Tuesday near North Glebe Road and Lee Highway.

Fire officials said a 1,500 pound concrete slab fell on the 35-year-old construction worker’s lower body.

A neighbor said he used a pick axe to try to save the man.

"He had a 3x3 block of concrete bent over at an angle on him. He was pinned against the wall of the hole, and the concrete was on his thighs,” the neighbor described.
