1 injured during Alexandria apartment fire

ALEXANDRIA, Va. (WUSA9) -- One person was injured during a two-alarm fire in Alexandria on Tuesday night.

Fire units from Fairfax, Arlington and Alexandria responded the a structure fire in a garden style apartment at 206 N. Howard Street around 10 p.m. Monday.

Firefighters say fire was showing from a second floor apartment window and the fire was beginning to extend to the floor above from the outside of the building. Heavy smoke conditions were present throughout the apartment building.

Officials were told that a person was possibly still inside when firefighters arrived, but that person was located outside the building. He had singed facial hair with soot present around his nose and mouth.

Medics from the Alexandria Fire Department treated the patient for possible airway burns and transported him to MedStar for evaluation.

The fire was extinguished quickly.
