9 juveniles arrested in recent robberies

WASHINGTON (WUSA9) - In the past week DC police have arrested nine juveniles for robbery related offenses. The youngest suspect is only 12-years-old, something police say is very unusual.

Residents say they generally feel safe in the Eastern Market area. But some are feeling unnerved after kids as young as 12 and 13 years old are being accused of robberies and attempted robberies. From October 14th to October 19th, police have arrested nine juveniles.

In the case of the 12 and 13 year olds, they are accused of attacking a woman on Ellen Wilson Place, pulling and tugging at her to steal her purse. “12-years-old is very young in my mind to become a violent criminal. It’s sad and scary,” said Wendy Jordan, who works nearby.

Police say the 13-year-old would continue the crime spree, robbing a woman of her cellphone just 30 minutes later 3 blocks away.
