2 kids murdered, 2 wounded at Germantown home

GERMANTOWN, Md. -- A horrible, heartbreaking scene in Germantown. Two young children dead, two more wounded, possibly stabbed.

Montgomery County police are now saying both the women they found inside are now "persons of interest" in the murders. They say the children's mother try to run when police arrived, But they were able to grab her in the back yard. She is 28 years old and uninjured. They also found a 22-year-old woman in the home. They say she lived there, but is apparently unrelated to the family. She is in the hospital with superficial wounds. Bot women are in police custody.

Police say they have no idea what could have motivated the women to attack the children.

Neighbors say the family was so happy to move to Cherry Bend Drive. But there was trouble last night and this morning. Child Protective Services was supposed to get here and try and figure out what was going on. They didn't make it in time.

By the time the medic unit arrived, it was too late for two of the children. Police found them dead upstairs, investigators described a bloody, terrifying scene.

"It's kind of horrifying for any father, any grandfather," said State's Attorney John McCarthy. It was bad enough to bring tears to the eyes of McCarthy."These are hard cases," he said, his voice breaking.

A 1-year-old boy and 2-year-old girl are dead, and an 8-year-old boy and 5-year-old girl are hospitalized, police say.

Tragically, a neighbor called police to the home Thursday night for a child left unattended in a car outside. But by the time the police knocked on the front door, the women had scooped up the child and gone back inside.

"They knocked on the door of the house, there was no answer," said Montgomery Co. Police Chief Thomas Manger..

Child Protective Services told police they'd investigate in the morning. But sometime overnight, neighbors say they heard noises.

"Voices, noises....I don't know about angry. But loud enough that some neighbors could here some kind of disturbance," said Chief Manger.

In the morning, a neighbor called police after noticing what looked like blood in the blue car out front. Police grabbed the keys, opened the front door, and saw the horror.

Police found a knife on the sidewalk outside the house and they believe it may have been used in the murders.

They believe they have everybody involved in these murders. But we are just waiting for them to announce charges.
