15-year-old struck by VRE train dies

FAIRFAX STATION, Va. (WUSA9) -- A 15-year-old boy was struck and killed by a VRE train on the Manassas line on Wednesday morning. All trains on that line have been cancelled, say VRE officials.

Officials have identified the 15-year-old boy as Jack Chen. The cause and manner of the death of Chen will be determined by Office of the Medical Examiner, officials said.

The Metro option is open to riders. VRE says that seven buses will be stationed at Manassas Park.

Fairfax County Police officials say they were notified about the incident at 11500 Clara Barton Dr, Fairfax Station, VA 22039 at approximately 5:35 a.m. The scene was in a residential area.

According to VRE officials, crews were keeping passengers on the train because it was so cold outside.
