ST. MARY'S COUNTY, MD (WUSA9) - A 12-year-old girl was arrested for filing a false police report after she allegedly called police to report being abducted.
The St. Mary’s County Emergency Communications Center received a 911 call from a juvenile female around 4:45 p.m. on Sunday.
The girl said an unknown male suspect had abducted her. She provided specific details on her abductor but did not give information about her location and disconnected the call.
Sheriff’s Office deputies were able to identify a possible location of the caller, near Poplar Ridge Road in Lexington Park. Authorities searched the area for a victim or indication of a crime.
Investigators also used a reverse 911 call. Additional neighborhood searches, interviews and other attempts to locate witnesses were made.
This all led to a 12-year-old girl who allegedly made the call because she was upset with a guardian.
Although no abduction occurred, there was an abundance of resources were used as a result of the report, the St. Mary’s County Sheriff’s Office said.
