2 die, infant injured in wrong way crash in Annapolis

ANNE ARUNDEL CO, MD (WUSA9) - Two people have died and an infant was injured in a car accident on Route 50 in Anne Arundel County on Wednesday, according to Anne Arundel County fire officials.

The crash happened on Route 50 East and Route 2 North near Severn River Bridge around 1:30 p.m. Police say the crash happened after a car was traveling in the wrong direction.

The deceased has been identified as Laura Ashley Murphy, 22, of Salisbury and Robert Skidmore, 66, of Cape St. Clair, Md.

Officials say Murphy was pronounced dead at the scene. A 14-month-old boy suffered critical injuries and was flown to hospital. The infant was a passenger in Murphy's car.

Skidmore suffered critical injuries after officials say he was trapped and extricated from the crash. Police say his car was hit head-on by the car Murphy was driving. He was later pronounced dead at the hospital.

A third car was also involved in the crash and was driven by Anthony Stanley, 59, of Bowie, Md. Police say he was not injured in the crash and his car sustained minor damage.

At this time, it is unclear where Murphy entered Route 50. Police say her car was traveling in the wrong direction and crashed head-on with Skidmore's car.
