WASHINGTON (WUSA) -- On our 'Living Green Special' that ran the weekend of October 10-11, we had an in-studio guest, Pablo Elliott. Pablo runs the The Airlie Local Food Project.
From the Airlie Web Site:
The Local Food Project at Airlie was established in 1998 by the Airlie Foundation in association with the Humane Society of the United States. Since then, the Local Food Project has provided organically grown vegetables, fruits, herbs, and flowers to the Airlie Center kitchen-demonstrating the significant role local food can play in an institutional setting. In 2008, the project completed construction of a passive solar hoophouse, allowing it to grow food for the Center on a year-round basis.
As Pablo told 9NEWS NOW, it takes the local farmer's market one step further, you're the farmer. The Airlie Foundation and Conference Center is located in Warrenton, Virginia and is a great example of how you can be more independent and "green" at the same time.
