Ocean City Family Installs Wind Turbine In Front Yard

WEST OCEAN CITY, Md. (AP) -- An Eastern Shore family has installed a wind turbine in their front yard that they say has cut their energy bills 30 percent.

Sara and Monty Lewis say the turbine cost about $14,000 to install and they estimate they will break even in about eight years if energy costs stay the same and they receive some renewable energy grants.

The couple say their neighbors don't mind the 40-foot tall structure, which is hidden by some trees. And because they live outside Ocean City's corporate limits, a pending wind turbine zoning ordinance doesn't apply to them.
