Restaurant Alert: Nat'l Gallery of Art's Cascade Cafe

WASHINGTON (WUSA9) -- In today's Restaurant Alert, tracking closures at a a famous art museum's cafe, an Indian place along the H Street corridor and a sushi spot in Virginia.

Health inspectors temporarily closed: The National Gallery of Art's Cascade Cafe, 600 Constitution Avenue, NW DC; Chicken and Rice, 819 H Street NE DC and Sushi Jin, 5624 Ox Road, Fairfax Station, Va.

They all passed re-inspection and are back in business.

The WUSA9 Restaurant Alert app shows 2 violations including, "roaches (nymphs and adults) were observed crawling…walls, floor and ceiling…"

"The health and safety of our guests is our single most important priority," said a Cascade Cafe spokeswoman in a statement. "To uphold that, the Cascade Café was closed temporarily to make corrections."

The app shows 22 violations including "live cockroaches observed inside the ice making machine, on food preparation table, on hand washing sink...." and, "rodent droppings observed at several places in the kitchen and live flies observed inside the kitchen on food preparatory table."

The database shows a July 9th report at Sushi Jin on Ox Road in Fairfax Station noting 11 total violations for repeatedly not having a certified food manager in the restaurant and also cites "the manager/owner handling the following ready-to-eat food using their bare hands: sushi rolls."
