Voluntary recall of Newman's Own Salsa Con Queso

LANDOVER, Md. (WUSA9) -- Giant Food of Landover, Md. announced Thursday it removed Newman's Own Salsa Con Queso from the shelves, due to an undeclared allergen, wheat, on the ingredient label.

The announcement was made following a recall made by Newman's Own, Inc., health officials said.

The product is however safe to eat for people who do not have a wheat allergy.

The following product is included in this recall:

Newman's Own Salsa Con Queso, 16 oz., UPC 2066200353 with use by dates of:March 28, 2015 ,April 28, 2015,May 28, 2015 ,June 28, 2015 July 28, 2015 , and August 28, 2015

Up until now Giant has not received any reports of illnesses.

Giant does warn, people who have an allergy or severe sensitivity to wheat may have serious or risk life-threatening allergic reaction after eating this product.

The reaction can happen anywhere between a few minutes to two hours after eating the product.

Officials said reactions can include anything from hives, flushed skin or rash, tingling or itchy sensation in the mouth, face, tongue or lip swelling, vomiting or diarrhea, stomach cramps, coughing or wheezing, dizziness, difficulty breathing, swelling of the throat and loss of consciousness.

If you bought this product, officials say to get rid of any unused portions and to bring the receipt to Giant for a full refund.
