ALEXANDRIA, Va. (WUSA) -- The look Leslie, a mom of three, likes is a natural one.
Like many women now a days, Leslie has used botox to keep her face wrinkle-free.
On this day, she's trying the latest wrinkle relaxing treatment called Dysport.
Dysport was approved in the United States in 2009 and is the first competitor to the extremely popular Botox.
Kim Marinetto with Avie Medspa explains that, "Dysport is actually another neuro-toxin in the market now. It helps block a chemical that makes a muscle contract."
Marinetto says Dysport made its debut in the nineties in Europe and has a long track record of use just like Botox.
The big difference is that Dysport touts that it provided almost instant results with no visible swelling or redness.
Botox usually takes a few days to reach its full effect. Another difference, according to Marinetto, is that users of Dysport may find they require fewer touch ups overtime.
"Dysport lasts four to five months, verses three to four months. If they're using Dysport, they will probably only come in once or twice a year depending on how fast the product metabolizes,"says Marinetto.
However, the dosing with Dysport is very different from Botox.
Marinetto explains that,"You do require double the dose of Dysport verses Botox," and that is the reason dermatologists and plastic surgeons alike suggest you seek out an experienced professional.
Dysport is also a smaller molecule, which means it spreads from the injection site more readily than Botox, which can translate into very natural looking results or unintended migration of the drug.
Some doctors are reluctant to use Dysport around the eyes, because of its potential power, but for Leslie, she says Dysport is her subtle, anti-aging solution.
