WASHINGTON, DC (WUSA) -- DC Councilman Marion Barry is out of the hospital for the second time in less than 24 hours.
The 73-year-old former mayor was re-admitted following an allergic reaction to seafood during dinner with friends at a popular downtown restaurant.
His doctor, Clide Callender, confirmed during a Tuesday afternoon press conference that Barry's swollen tongue, blurred vision and shortness of breath were the result of a seafood allergy, which until then had gone undetected.
Barry was released from the very same hospital earlier Monday afternoon.
He had been in the Intensive Care Unit for a week because of dehydration and a blood infection.
Barry underwent a successful kidney transplant at Howard earlier this year. Doctor Callender says as a result of Barry's notoriety, such transplants have doubled at the hospital.
