WASHINGTON, DC (WUSA) -- Summer is here, and that means more time being active outdoors. One key to summer fun is keeping your body in tip top shape.
Virginia mother of two, Kerry Baker, says it was a dancing injury that first led her to the chiropractor.
Kerry says, "I had torn my hamstring off the bone."
Kerry says she had tried physical therapy and other treatments, but nothing seemed to work.
Kerry says, "I couldn't run; I could barely walk, and then finally, I went to the chiropractor, and that was the only thing that got me running again."
Kerry sees husband and wife chiropractic team Mick and Nicole Sicre. They run Active Family Chiropractic in Reston, VA. Mick and Nicole say people have to take care of their backs like every other part of the body.
"Like our teeth," says Mick, "Our spines need to be maintained from birth."
Nicole says it's important to make sure that your spine is aligned before we you start active sports Especially since most of us spend countless hours at a desk.
Nicole says, "Sitting at that desk in that awful hunched over position and your body starts to accept that awful position."
The Sicres say even children can benefit from spinal adjustment. Kerry Baker brings her sons in for monthly adjustments.
Mick says, "When they are first learning to walk, when they're falling, all different thing happen to children, we don't apply same maintenance to children as we do to adults.
Kerry says the visits as preventative care.
"I think its very beneficial to do preventative care, more natural care, I've seen wonders myself with kids being so healthy While some people are wary of chiropractic care for kids."
Mick and Nicole maintain it's both safe and effective. Kerry Baker thinks the monthly visits keep her whole family 'living well.'
"From experience I see wonders with myself and with my kids being so healthy. There has been so much benefit for our family that I truly believe in it."
It's important to talk to your primary care physician before you or your children see a chiropractor.
