WASHINGTON (WUSA) -- Natalie Bovis Nelsen is a liquid muse. She comes up with innovative drink concoctions.
Chef Danny Bortnick from Firefly restaurant is a father of two.
They had a few ideas for how to celebrate the moms-to-be this year.
"I thought the mom-to-be often got overlooked when it came to celebrations," says Nelsen.
Bortnick says,"My wife was very conscious of eating healthful and eating things that are right for the fetus."
Natalie has a new book called Preggatini. She pulled from her experiences as a mom and a planner of celebrity baby showers.
Some of her specialities are yummy vitamin rich libations.
One of Natalie's favorite mocktails is the sparkling pomegranate.
"It has pomegranate juice so it's very good at antioxidants, it has free alcohol removed sparkling wine," says Nelsen.
Chef Bortnick says make sure you don't forget about adding a few interesting dishes that complement all the herbs and nutrients found in the preggatinis.
"In this appetizer with smoked trout, is packed with omega 3 amino acids," says Bortnick.
Bortnick also prepares dishes, like buckwheat pancakes, which are filled with folic acid, a key vitamin for babies.
Bortnick also recommends dishes that contain leafy vegetables, like quinoa that can be served in different ways.
Chef Bortnick says some other easy favorite healthy eats of moms-to-be are:
- Granola and Yogurt
- Fondue with Apples, Grapes and French Bread
- Low Fat Turkey Meatballs
An example from Preggatini is one of what Natalie says is a celebrity favorite: The Kingston, named after Gwen Stefani's first born son.
