WASHINGTON, DC (WUSA)--These days if you are not twittering, you're falling behind in the age of social networking. Now one local dermatologist has started twittering so that people can get an inside look at the latest procedures.

Dr. Elizabeth Tanzi is a Washington DC dermatologist who says it was her patients who inspired her to start twittering.

Dr. Tanzi says, "I see a lot of patients every day who are interested in the latest treatment of their wrinkles. I find that they have a lot of misinformation."

To counter that, Dr. Tanzi invites potential patients to follow along with a procedure, via Twitter.

Dr. Tanzi says, "The social networking sites like Twitter can help me educate people on what's possible with laser treatments, not only the advantages, but the disadvantages."

Suzie has come in for laser resurfacing of her face using the Fraxel system. As Dr. Tanzi does the procedure, her nurse tweets along, letting people know how long it takes and what it's like.

Suzie says, "I think it will reach much more so then a newspaper or magazine, this is a chance to show what works and what doesn't."

After numbing Suzie's skin, Dr. Tanzi uses a laser to remove surface skin cells and stimulate collagen growth.

Dr. Tanzi says, "It helps to soften fine lines and wrinkles. It will be a bit swollen and ooze for 24 hours and then be a bit crusty for a few days."

The side effects and recovery are the kind of knowledge that Dr. Tanzi says patients can get first hand by following along on Twitter.

She says, "We can talk about what a patient is feeling and this is a way of getting into nitty gritty details."

Friday April 1st at noon Dr. Tanzi will be twittering her last Fraxel repair laser case, involving a patient with a scar.

Dr. Tanzi's twitter address is: SkinlaserMD
