Zengo cycle: mixing zen with spin!

WASHINGTON (WUSA9) -- A great way to get in shape is to completely clear your mind and let your body take over. This is the concept of a fast growing workout that mixes spin with plenty of zen.

Zengo, a workout where you get your Zen and a full body workout at the same time. They say it's like a "ride you've never taken before."

Zengo Cycle Owner Marc Caputo says, "We wanna get that mental component where you can just let your brain go, lose yourself in the music, in the excitement, and then the body kicks in."

The atmosphere helps to get into the zone. It's dark with low purple lights with oxygen pumped into the room. It gets foggy very quickly, and the music is rocking. Push-ups and dancing are incorporated with the cycling.

Caputo says, "Unlike running where you get sort-of-that runner's high, you can't turn your brain off when you are running because you are always worried about those other distractions, the car, the bike. In here you can pretty much take that entire class with your eyes closed, and that's where kind of the zen part comes in.

Innovative spin classes are becoming popular across the nation. Zengo Cycle gyms are the first built in the DC area from the ground up for spinning. The locations are in Bethesda and Logan Circle. A third location is planned for Northern Virginia.
