A team of Swedish researchers tracked more than three million people with no heart disease over a 12 year period.
It turns out that dog owners had a 20 percent lower risk of dying compared to people who didn't have a dog.
The benefits were particularly strong for dog owners who lived alone - they had a 33 percent lower risk of death, and an eight percent lower risk of cardiovascular disease, like stroke and heart failure.
If you don't have a dog, have a handful of nuts. A study in the Journal of the American College of Cardiology, finds eating walnuts one or more times a week was associated with a 19 percent lower risk of cardiovascular disease and 21 percent lower risk of coronary heart disease.
People who ate peanuts or tree nuts two or more times per week had a 13 percent and 15 percent lower risk of cardiovascular disease, respectively, and a 15 percent and 23 percent, lower risk of coronary heart disease, respectively, compared to those who never consumed nuts.
