FDA: Improper use of laxatives can be deadly

WASHINGTON (WUSA9) -- The ingredients from taking extra doses of laxatives can be deadly. TheFDA is warning that some sodium phosphate laxatives can have dangerous side effects if the dosing instructions or warnings on the "drug facts" label are not properly followed. Improper use led to 13 deaths.

Children and adults over 55who have colon problems or are taking drugs for kidney problems should consult a physician before laxative use. At this time, those newwarnings are not on the product "drug facts" label.
