WASHINGTON (WUSA) --- Is it bad timing, or just a really bad idea? Or both?

A debate is raging over a decision to spend millions of dollars on a new president's mansion on the University of Maryland College Park campus.

Supporters say the existing home is almost 60 years old and desperately needs an upgrade. The new mansion would help attract more donors for the University.

Opponents are furious, since just weeks ago students were told there was no money to fund several sports programs: swimming, tumbling and water polo.

Watch Anchor Derek McGinty moderate the debate between two guests.
