SUMTER, SC - (WLTX) -- A toddler was found riding a battery-powered toy car in a diaper and pajama pants early Sunday morning, according to the Sumter County Sheriff's Department.
Deputies say the 2-year-old male was riding near Roger Avenue when a stranger spotted him. She took the child to a nearby home and told the person there to contact the authorities. When deputies responded, they saw the tracks made by the child and followed them to his home.
Deputies say the parents were in shock to find out that their child had gotten up that early and snuck out of the house after putting him to bed.
The Department of Social Services was called and they spoke with the parents. Deputies say DSS will speak to the parents again regarding the safety of the child. They say the family had no prior problems and this is an isolated incident.
Deputies and DSS will continue to investigate.
