WASHINGTON, D.C. (WUSA) - Santa Claus is coming to town, and stopping by the Washington Animal Rescue League's Winter Holidays Open House! St. Nick himself will be meeting and greeting visitors at the shelter, located at 71 Oglethorpe St. NW, on Sunday Dec. 2 from noon-3 p.m.
Visitors will enjoy live seasonal music, delicious treats and yes, pet photos with Santa. He'll be ready to pose with your fur children, or the human kind too--and you could get into the picture as well! A $20 donation, with all proceeds supporting WARL's shelter animals, will get you a generously sized 4" x 6" photo as well as an electronic version, and if you'd like extra photos to send to Grandma, Aunt Kate and the other relatives and friends, an added $5 will pay for each of those.
For gift shopping, the folks from Politics and Prose bookstore will be on hand offering dozens of animal-themed books to choose for perfect holiday giving, with a portion of book sales also helping WARL pets. Some of those will be attending, too, hoping to meet their new forever families, just as eager dog Sweet and mellow cat Sailor, pictured, are.
Visitors are asked to bring a donation of unopened pet food, canned or bagged, to put under the tree for WARL's Rescuers Food Bank, which can always use as boost of inventory, as it's always busy helping low-income pet parents. And your unused pet toys, or equipment like extra leashes, carriers, beds, etc., are welcome too.
Plan now to stop by the Open House. For more about Santa's visit, or to see adoptable pets and find useful animal info, check WARL's website: www.warl.org.
