WASHINGTON (WUSA) - As Hurricane Sandy approaches; D.C. area residents are reminded to call 2-1-1 if they are without power, out of food, need shelter or assistance of any kind.
The United Way of the National Capital Area wants to remind citizens that you can call 2-1-1 to be connected with organizations that provide help in times of disaster or emergency. There will be trained operators who can speak a variety of different languages available 24/7.
If you are facing a life-threatening emergency, always call 9-1-1.
2-1-1 Metro DC is a network of call centers, which help address local needs and concerns. Operators will help callers find basic services and support including food, clothing, shelter and more by connecting them with organizations that provide assistance in times of disaster or emergency.
