  The Mason Mess
Not the way coach Larranaga and Goerge Mason wanted to go out. I followed them to Denver and I too was caught up in the thought, that maybe they could make another miracle run. In fact, so was all the media in Denver. All the questions Mason answered how to do with their popularity after that run and what it meant 2-years ago, to be the little team that could. I actually think it kind of pissed alot of the other teams off.

What Mason found out was reality. The players said all the right things, but they had to think they had more tricks up their sleeves. Notre Dame thought they did and that's why they brought it. They hit three after three and let G-Mason know that it's not going to happen again. Being the media darling is good as long as you hold up your end of the bargain. Mason did not and now they are just the team from Fairfax, that is like all the other mid-majors. Hard to get a win against the big dogs.

Give these guys credit though. They got beat down because they opened some eyes. They got bullied because people remember them landing the blow that took the school yard bully down. So basically if you think about it, Mason had a beating coming to them. I can see it now, Conneticut's coach Jim Calhoun, calling Notre Dame's coach Mike Brey and giving him an at a boy. Saying maybe now they have learned their lesson. Well fellas their will be another George Mason. All Notre Dame did was make sure it wasn't the team from Fairfax again.

  To the Rescue
So who is going to step up and rescue the Washington Wizards? The home team is playing well but this can only last for so long. Something has to give and it could be Eddie Jordan's job. I don't think Eddie should be the fall guy for all of this but his name is starting to float near that line. If it was up to me.. I think it's time to let go the trainer. Why can't the Wiz-kids stay healthy?

Every team goes through their share of bumps and bruises but they all rehab and get back to the court. Caron Butler and Gilbert Arenas, both re-injured themselves going through rehab. Ain't that some crap. Go in for help and come out worse. The Wizards need to take that trainer out back and put hin through the gauntlet. This is 2 seasons in a row where the Wizards will try and make the playoffs and they will be soft.

Let's face it. Caron may not come back. His hip was sore and he was shouldering the load while all of this was going on. Gilbert Arenas is cleared to play but right now he is real tentative. So that means, the home team is not ready for the playoffs and if they make it, they won't go far. Who wants to see them lose to the Cavaliers or go 4 and out to the Celtics. The trainier needs to go. I don't think right now I would let him train my dog to sit. The problem is, he may have cost Eddie the job.

  And the Winner is...
I sat there and listened to Roger Clemens' account of steroids and HGH.. and how he didn't take it and then it hit me. What is going on? I can't say I believe Clemens. I mean Brian McNamee is slimy and can't be trusted but he apparently told the truth about Andy Pettitte, Chuck Knoblach and... oh by the way, Roger Clemens' wife Debbie. Her account in this whole thing is just weird. Anyway, I just can't believe that all that money on capitol hill was wasted on this.

The hearing, saw Republicans side with Clemens and Democrats go with McNamee. It was great television don't get wrong, but I couldn't help but think that money could have gone to removing soldiers from the war or child and health care in this country. It could have gone to a number of things but instead, Roger and his bad haircut and starnge sayings, was on the hill defending his baseball honor.

This was supposed to be about cleaning up baseball. Now we have hearings dealing with individuals. I didn't take it... or yes you did. Who really cares? What is the net result? By grilling Clemens and McNamee, does it mean that athletes are going to stop finding ways to beat the system. NO. In fact, while congress was playing "liar liar pants on fire" with those 2, I am sure some genuis found away to melt down a coffee bean and make it the next great performance enhancing drug.

Roger lied and McNamee lied and what's even worse, afterwards congress said maybe they should not of had the hearing. YOU THINK!!! These are the people in charge. GLORIOUS. Maybe we can hold a hearing and found how many licks it takes to get to the middle of a tootsie roll pop or why orange juice tastes awful after I brush my teeth. There were no winners in this one. People just got a chance to see their hard earned money at work and it was sad.

  BAFFLED
If the reports are true and Jim Zorn is the next Redskins coach, then I am just baffled. This was Zorn's first job as a coordinator and after 2-weeks, of basically moving his stuff into Redskins Park, Dan Snyder and Vinny Cerrato have seen enough to warrant him head coach status. I bet you Zorn is a great guy with a good football mind but taking this on could be a bit much. Again, I am not sure of the process the Redskins use but it just seems a bit backwards. I will say it again. Zorn was hired as the offensive coordinator 2-weeks ago. What happened that made his stock better than, Fassell, Mariucci, Meeks, Williams, Saunders and the may other candidates interviewed for the job.

The Skins have put Zorn in a bad spot and now he has to try and bail them out. He has to be dynamic and ready for the position. He has to be able to capture the players thoughts and keep them interested. Hopefully, he will have his own ideas because right now, it looks like this idea is all Dan and Vinny. When we get a chance to talk to Jim Zorn, maybe he will change our minds.

  FINALLY!!!
The good news about the Superbowl is this. Afterwards, the Redskins will finally name a head coach and life as we know it with the burgundy and gold can move on. This is a mess. I had someone tell me they wouldn't let Dan Snyder and Vinny Cerrato, pick their fantasy football players. Those 2 are in deep. They have to pick the head coach and they have to make sure the team does not have a 5 and 11 season next year. That is going to be tough because, believe it or not, this looks more like rebuilding than moving forward. Again, I can't wait for that new coach press conference. It's sad because there will be more questions for Dan Snyder, than there will be for the new man in charge. This will be the 6th, coach the Redskins will have under Snyder. Let's just say stability, gone.

Also, I am going to say Jim Fassell will be the new head coach. Not good with predictions, I just feel all the coodinators got hired after they talked to Fassell. He was Dan's pick before Joe Gibbs took the job. Dan may feel strong about giving him a second chance. Let's hope that second chance happens early next week.

To the Superbowl now and I have to believe that the Patriots are going to win this game. The weather is going to be nice. That favors the Pats and history is on the line. Bill Belichick is a history buff and getting that 4th ring against a team that he loves, will be a big accomplishment. I would love for Eli to win this. After all the stuff he's taken, in his short period of time in New York, a win would stick it to Tiki Barber and the rest of the haters. Eli can run off in to the sunset and go to Disneyland. That's not gonna happen. I pick the Pats to win this game and I pick them to win big. Tomorrow, we'll talk Superbowl commercials.

  No Laughing Matter
I hate the fact that the Redskins have become this big joke among those in the NFL. People in the league are not even hiding their laughter anymore. If you bring up the burgundy and gold's situation, there's a small pause and that's followed with 10 minutes of side splitting howling. It's like, night at the improv and I expect to see someone flying though the air because the laughter has lifted them off their feet. This not funny.

If you're looking for a silver lining in this whole thing, here it is. The Skins are the only team in the league without a head coach. They right now can take their time and try and find the person they want. Who that person is, no one knows. Dan Snyder obviously did not mind, when Joe Gibbs was playing with his toys. Now that Joe is gone, Dan has taken his toys and gone home. He really wants his team back and his actions over the weekend have let everybody know. The Skins are looking to re-invent the wheel. The defense shouldn't struggle all together but this offense is going to go through another overall. GREAT... More days watching the Redskins pull off false starts and 3 and outs because everybody is trying to get a grasp of the playbook. HAPPY HAPPY JOY JOY

Gregg Williams and Al Saunders are going to get jobs elsewhere and they will probably refuse to talk about their last days here. But if they do, trust me, they were both unhappy with the way this went down. If they decide at any point to talk and tell, that will be must see TV.

I forgot to mention this before but why did Ladanian Tomlinson act like a little baby at the AFC Championship game. Great player, not a great leader. From now on he should have to spend the rest of his days walking around, with his helmet and visor on. He was so comfortable in that position when his team needed him the most, why not make it an every day thing. That way we can all not see what he's thinking and realize, that we really don't care. He went from superstar to warm garbage in a matter of minutes. That's sad because he has the potential to lead men. Now he's just a head in a helmet.

Back from the AFC Championship Game
So I got a chance to be a fan and go to the AFC Championship game last week. There was a little bit of work involved but being a fan was the key ingredient. First and foremost, I don't know how people do it. Tailgating in the cold and still having the power to rock and roll through the game and then party on afterwards is amazing. The Patriots don't have the best fans in the NFL, that distinction goes to the Redskins, but because of their teams success, they do have a group that's used to winning. When their team is down, there are no worries. No one is clutching some lucky rabbits foot or going with the rally caps. No one is talking to their higher power or going into a cursing tyrade of "don't let this happen to me again." In fact, nothing happens. It must be nice. They have trust in Tom Brady and folks, that's as good as it gets. You could tell he was hurt and he was having a bad game. Not a problem. The Patriots did enough to get the job done and there was Tom, smiling and holding the trophy. All the women in the stands had their best winter outfits on, hoping Tom would show them some love... and then they realize, he's with Giselle. Enough said. Go Tom, it's your birthday, Giselle's a model.

I want Eli Manning to win the Superbowl just for the commercials. I want him walking down the ESPN hallways, leading the way and then kicking Peyton in the rear. I want Eli to dominate Visa and have some grocer sign and cantaloupe for Peyton. It's time for Eli to get his. Peyton has dominated the commercial airwaves. Let the other Manning get some. I just don't think that's going to happen. Did I mention Tom is with Giselle!!!!

What are the Redskins doing? How can the Atlanta Falcons have a coach and personnel in place before Washington? I know they are waiting for the right candidate but c'mon. Now Al Saunders has been told to look for work elsewhere because the Redskins have hired Jim Zorn as offensive coordinator. I'm sure Al is happy about that. He and Todd Collins just led the Redskins to the playoffs and their reward, a pink slip, the door. Don't let it hit ya where the good lord split ya. Gibbs and Snyder have handled this a bit harsh and yes I said Gibbs. He is still on staff collecting a pay check. But now the guys he brought in to help are being told to hit the road. That's crap!! Whenever the Redskins hire a coach, the big noise will be made by Gregg Williams. Let's see how long he can go, before letting it all hang out about the Redskins operation. This procedure had to hurt his pride. Gregg didn't deserve all of this. If you didn't want him to be the head coach, then don't interview him 7-thousand times. The way the Skins are searching, it looks like they're trying to re-invent the wheel. They did that a couple of year's ago. Remember they finished that season 5 and 11.
