An Upper Marlboro man has been arrested for allegedly starting a house fire near Largo in April that critically injured a firefighter.

Fifty-eight-year-old John Daniel was arrested Tuesday by fire investigators. He was released on bond after being taken to the Prince George's County Department of Corrections.

Fire investigators obtained a warrant Friday for arson, reckless endangerment and malicious burning charges.

Daniel allegedly set a house on Herrington Drive near Largo on fire in April. Firefighter Daniel McGown became disoriented while fighting the blaze and fell in the home.

Fire authorities said McGown lost his face protection and breathing air, suffering second-degree burns on his face and ears, first-degree burns on his shoulders and eye injuries from the smoke. Firefighter McGown is back to full duty.

John Daniel was arrested at his home at 109 Stan Fey Drive. On June 15 of this year the house at 105 Stan Fey Drive was destroyed by fire. The cause of the fire has not been determined.

The AP contributed to this report.

Comments:
FF McGown is my friend and fellow Fire Fighter..Hang that son of a bitch.

Great job by the members of the Prince George's County Fire Investigations Unit! Way to track down the "alleged" individual that tried killing one of our own. Kudos and thank you to all that were involved.

Good job Tony Kelleher and the guys from 33. Career guy here and I hope that they hang that guy. Or send him to Dilly Drive where he will know true justice.

They need to make an example of him.. We are all so lucky that Danny is with us today. $500,000 bail... guess he got his insurance check already.. Wonder if it was his house or if he set the fire for "kicks"
