June 16 update: Paramedic White says Trooper Martin should have badge and gun taken away

More STATter911.com coverage: Trooper's lawyer says medic is danger to the community; Dash cam video released; Fox News interviews EMS crew & Trooper Martin; Trooper on administrative leave; No charges filed by DA; EMT-B Paul Franks speaks out; Read statements from Toopers Martin & Iker; Troopers identified; Statements from witnesses and the patient; Reaction from police officers; Statements from EMS crew.

My friend Brian Wilson at Fox News is on the case in Oklahoma trying to learn more about the confrontation between Oklahoma Highway Patrol Trooper Daniel Martin and the Creek Nation EMS crew. He snagged an interview with Paramedic Maurice White Jr. and even a little bit on camera with Trooper Martin.

Also, OHP now confirms that its investigation has been completed, that the trooper is on administrative leave and that the woman in the police car is Trooper Martin's wife.

Click here for our story earlier today.

Comments:
So the investigation is complete, but Trooper Martin is still on administrative leave? How does that work?

Oh, and 'the woman that was in the police car is'.

Who would have been responsible if his...wife would have injured or killed in an automobile accident or been shot and killed while he was performing his police duties? Sounds like Oklahoma State Police has a bad policy in place about civilian ride alongs.

"Sounds like Oklahoma State Police has a bad policy in place about civilian ride alongs."

Or a serious failure to follow policy...

Trooper Martin's attorney has said that Martin suffers from a form of PTSD from his (recent) time as a soldier in Iraq. Is this the start of a series of events related to returning soldiers?! Is the State of Oklahoma hiring people without vetting their mental health?? If this is related to PSTD, the State of Oklahoma is just as culpable (and liable) as Trooper Martin

I'd like you to consider this:

This OHP v. EMT incident has received national attention. YouTube has the incident footage rated as the #2 all-time viewed on the site. Fox News today (Sat. June 13th, 2009) has expressed outrage at the officer's actions. As more Americans learn of the incident, more outrage and attention is being displayed. *** My point is this:

A window of opportunity has emerged for the EMS field.

If we can all take a moment to rise above the emotion of this incident, we can educate and sway the hearts and minds of Americans to the following points:

1. The patient's safety and well-being was put at risk by the officer's actions. As a medical professional, it was Medic White's DUTY to ensure the patient's care. When doctors or EMTs are restricted from this duty, we all are at risk.

2. Medic White's words/actions/demeanor was and is absolutely flawless. It's the officer who appears as the crazed maniac. By keeping a professional face, Medic White was able to show the world that EMS is a profession with the highest standards. This will most certainly affect the outcome of his case.

3. An EMT is an agent of the public's safety. As with medical doctors, all citizens should be aware and support the duty of such EMS professionals when a medical incident arises. The image and reputation of the medical doctor continues to be regarded in a high manner, and we now have an opportunity to elevate EMS closer to that position.

Of course all of us have read incidents where an EMS professional failed to rise to the standards of the profession. Here we have a case where EMS has exceeded those standards. We need to announce this incident to the world. I hope Medic White is rewarded for his professionalism, but I further hope that EMS is rewarded for the high standards that most of us adhere to every day.

Please make sure you tell your friends and family about this incident.

It can only help our profession.

This guy is a disgrace to his uniform. This is extremely disturbing and gives more reason to fear unruly "peace" officers rather than respect and depend on them.

If trooper Martin truly is suffering from PTSD stress from just having returned from Iraq, then he should quickly apologize for his actions, admit that it was not appropriate and request some down time to de-stress. People would treat him a lot more sympathetically. Cops are human beings like anyone else and can hit psychological problems. What scares the crap out of people is when cops think that their uniform enables them to violate the civil rights of other people in any way they choose just because they've got the power to do it and then the so called justice system supports them and backs them up.

EMT guys run reds and stop signs on the way to Dominos Pizza in my town. They don't rule the road because they are in an ambulance (that didn't have sirens on) - that paramedic came out of that ambulance aggressively ! how would you react if you were a cop and and some guy came at you mocking "No, I'm talking to you" Obviously, that paramedic has no respect for the law - and feels above it ! come on guys !

i dont agree with officer but the driver should have pulled over he saying he didnt hear the siren i dont buy that, how can he say he didnt not hear the siren when the car in front of him heard it and pulled over

The paramedic had no business getting out from the back of the ambulance. If he would have just let the trooper issue the citation all this would have been avoided.

the paramedic had evry right and the obligation to get out of the ambulance and confront trooper Martin . White was the senior/ ranking public safety official at a medical sceen. an ambulance transporting a pt is a medical sceen. Martins status was relegated to following direction from the senior medical officer as long as the medical sceen is in progress, therefore he had no right or authority to give a lawfull order to the ranking person on sceen. whight was only trying to make it clear to Martinn that it was a medical sceen, Martin is or at least should be labeled a felon for interfeering with the medical treatment and transport of a patient by a senior person

fire the PIG then sue his hillbilly dumbass

I don't think the trooper/emt incident had anything to do with race. It was about rage. Sudden rage and needs to be treated. hopefully this officer will get the treatment he needs and find another type of work. And my hope is that the police department will do the right thing and clean up it's own department, not just here but everywhere and treat people with respect.

Someone below said..."that if he didn't hear the siren then why did the car in front of the ambulance pull over"? Well genius the car in front of the ambulance probably herd the ambulances sirens since the ambulance was running red in front of the car! Besides inside the ambulance it would be hard to hear the sirens from behind you over your own sirens!

Bottum line is this...Trooper came out a little hot! Regardless of what the paramedic did! The Paramedic came out of the back of the ambulance but didn't start in on the Trooper until the Trooper got hot with the driver! Then he told the trooper to talk to him not the driver because he was over the unit! To me, the Trooper shouldn't be fired! I think he needs help with his PTSD! I think the Paramedics acted out of frustration with a patient needing medical attention on board! I think that it should all just be squashed and move on! Hats off to the Trooper for serving our Country and I hope he gets the help he deserves!

As a public safety professional, I must admit this video is a disgrace! I feel that all parties involved acted "unprofessionally"!
The ambulance was running "non emergency", that means the patients condition was stable. Therefore, the driver should have followed the rules of the road and yeilded to the "emergency vehicle"!

As for the medic, if he was so worried about patient care then why did he "abandon" his patient by exiting the ambulance and confront the trooper?

That being said, the tropper exercised poor judgement by pulling the ambulance over. He should have radioed the ambulance, ask the crew for there destination, then followed them to that location and handled it after patient care was transferred to the ER staff. Everything we do as public safety professionsal in the feild, is done in the public eye! So if we want to be treated like professionals, we must act like one!
