Spokesman Alan Etter has some early details from a busy morning for the DC Fire & EMS Department a day after the Inauguration.
It started at 7:21 AM with a fire in a rowhouse at 2218 North Capitol Street. According to Etter firefighters encountered fire on the first and second floor. They rescued a 14-year-old boy from the second floor and began CPR. Etter says EMS crews did revive the child. A woman died in the same fire. An elderly man escaped on his own.
Three firefighters were also treated. One for an ankle injury, one with chest pains and the third with high blood pressure. The fire went to a second-alarm.
A short time later and just ten blocks south there was another row house fire. This one was on Randolph Place, NW off of North Capitol Street. It also went to two-alarms.
The third fire was at a Giant Food store at 8th and O Streets, NW. The store had fire in the duct work.
