From reporter Leonard N. Fleming, The Detroit News:

Friends, family and co-workers gathered Sunday night for a candlelight vigil for fallen Detroit firefighter Walter Harris at the site of the abandoned house that caught fire and claimed his life as crews worked to extinguish the blaze.

Harris, 37, a 17-year veteran of the department, perished when a roof collapsed on him around 5:30 a.m. Saturday morning.

Katrina Butler, a spokeswoman for the department, said all fire personnel were invited to attend the vigil at the house near Kirby and Sheridan.
