Video of the day: Propane fire and explosions

From Laurel County, KY, a propane leak, fire and explosions in the back of a pick up truck.

Watch an interview with the truck's driver.

Here is the description with the video:

Police in Laurel County have released surveillance video of an incident last Friday in which a propane tank on the back of a pickup truck exploded.

The incident happened Friday afternoon just before 4 p.m. at the Tire & Lube Express, which is part of the Wal-Mart in London. The video shows Michael Mize, who was going to get his tires changed, pulling up in his truck and getting out.

At that point, he noticed the 100-pound propane tank in the truck's bed was leaking. The video shows Mize leaning in to close the leak when, police say, static electricity caused a spark that triggered an explosion that knocks Mize about 10 feet from the truck. Mize then gets up and moves away from the burning truck.

Propane continued to burn in the back of the truck for over a minute before the tank, along with likely the truck's gas tank, exploded in a massive fireball. The blast was so strong it was felt in a nearby Walgreen's, where a lights fell on two female employees.

Mize was treated and released from a nearby hospital. He suffered burns to his arms, hands and face. The two Walgreen's employees were also treated and released.
