Fire officer cuts EMS worker in DC. Described as "negligent horseplay".

An incident Tuesday evening at DC Fire & EMS Department's Engine 5 in Georgetown is the subject of an internal investigation after a civilian EMS worker was sent to the hospital for a laceration. Ten stitches were required to close the wound in the man's hand after he was cut by a by a knife wielding fire lieutenant.

According to officials with the department, the two employees were "roughhousing" or "play fighting" in front of the firehouse when the firefighter pulled a knife with a blade approximately four-inches long. The officials believe the lieutenant meant it as a joke, but instead accidentally slashed the EMS worker across the top of his hand.

Police were called, but according to spokesman Alan Etter, the injured worker declined to press charges. The lieutenant is now on administrative leave while a department investigation continues.

In a statement, Chief Dennis Rubin wrote "this behavior is not acceptable by this department and will not be tolerated". Rubin added, "It is important that the public understand that this sort of behavior is not condoned in our department, and anyone who engages in it will be dealt with severely".

Its ok, just come right over to PG where you can volunteer and do whatever you want. You can light off fireworks or fellow firefighters, fist fight on the fireground, turn off others scba, play chief for the day, pick and choose your calls, and recruit firefighters with a history of arson. Rules and regulations, who needs those things. DC should be the ones giving furloughs, they love the job so much, they do it for free in PG.

ok, deal with it and call it a day. Investigate your officers, because both of them have been there for several years and both should of known better. But as reported, it was an accident, no grudges are held, they both apologized, one has been suspended, let the suspension be over and let the kids come back to class; just as in school; if they need to be treated like kids then so be it. Look at their clean records, hard work, loyalty to the department, and give them both, both a no tolerance with probation before judgement for 60-90 days, no OT allowed, and any slip up of any sort OTD; no questions/no comments, they had their warning. Put the LT back to work. Let bygones be bygones, kiss and make up

THIS WAS NOT ANY DAM HORSEPLAY BUT IT IS A COVER UP HAD IT BEEN THE EMS WHO CUT THE FUCKING LT HE WOULD HAVE BEEN ARRESTED AND FIRED. BUT GUESS WHAT I HEARD THE DAD IS A HIGH POSTIONED PERSON IN THE POLICE DEPT I GUESS HE CAN FIX THINGS TO HIS SONS ADVANTAGE.
