Haunted house a little scarier than imagined

Audio from Six Flags America fire from DC Fire Feeds

There are a lot of things that are supposed to get your heart racing and illicit screams at the "Frightorium Haunted House" at Six Flags America in Largo, MD. Fire, though, isn't supposed to be one of them.

Wednesday evening at 7:00 PM firefighters arrived at the amusement park to find heavy fire conditions in the rear of the one-story wooden building. According to Prince George's County Fire/EMS Department Chief Spokesman Mark Brady, the fire had broken through the roof and was moving toward the center of the structure when firefighters stopped its spread.

Six Flags of America's staff had moved people out of the area and had to close the park because of the arriving fire equipment. The building was vacant. It is normally open in the month of October as a walk-through haunted house.

Brady believes the building to be a total loss, but was not able to provide a damage estimate. The cause of the fire has not been released.

Comments:
I remember back in 1984 when the Haunted House at Six Flags Great Adventure in New Jersey burned killing several visitors.

When will they learn and sprinkler these things?

Hell, that building was 35 years old and used for 3-4 weeks a year
I don't thing they were going to sprinkler it after the fact.......

Forget about sprinklers. Somebody get their hands on the tape and listen to the hack job done by the EMERGENCY OPERATIONS CHIEF!!!! This job is like a deputy fire chief anywhere else...this guy had simultaneous interior and exterior attacks going

tell teh story about the first due engine not laying a supply line in

tell about the second engine laying 1500' of 3" hose ( for what?)

There was a big fire in play land but it turned out to be more a circus than a amusement park and the PGFD brass those arrogant volunteer hating, take command because I can wackos almost got somebody killed....tell that story STATTER

post that tape on this site and lets see if I am some wacko

What utter nonsense how do we justify paying that guy DEPUTY CHIEF 802

Statter I would hate to issue a public challenge but if you can't get that tape published unedited I will stop believing in you!

and yes I am anonymous because if I used me own name they would concoct some more of their silly nonsense to try and screw me

that tape aint anonymous though

what about the tape of that horrific fire what about my post about how the deputy fire chief messed up is taht not worth posting

The building did have a dry system in it. It is only charged for the halloween events. I worked there in safety froom 200o to 2006. That thing was nothing more than a picnic pavillion with plywood walls on the outer half and plywood walkways acting as a guide through the building.

what about the 1400 foot lay everyone way working off of then the 6TH DUE ENGINE comes in off side chalie, takes their OWN hydrant, runs the 250 and gets water on the fire with 100' to spare! how come no-one else got that hydrant? you hear in the video everyone complaining of water problems, it the 1ST ARRIVING engine had got the c-side hydrant and ran a line would the building have burned down? and to top it all off the same chief 802 told them to shut down pack up and go home. guess he felt like an idiot layin out 1400 feet when there was a hydrant 170' away.

I have put a link up to DC Fire Feeds version of the audio of this fire. Does that mean you still believe in me? (whoever wrote the rather pointed message)

I have listened to the first 20 minutes of the audio so far. Clearly there is a serious issue about not everyone being on the same page on exterior operations that occurs just before the 20-minute mark. I have asked questions about this and expect to write something up later in the week.

Thanks for the tip.

Dear Dave-
WE BELIEVE IN YOU

That building was sprinklered. The connection is clearly visable on the corner of the building.
