Deonte Rawlings

Prosecutors decided not to bring criminal charges against the two DC police officers involved in the Deonte Rawlings slaying;

That came as no surprise to people close to the case. People in the streets were quick to share their accounts that the 14 year old had no gun and no powder residue was found on the boy's hands to indicate that he had fired on officers; but those same witnesses failed to come forward during the federal probe meaning they had no real sworn testimony to offer or decided it best to stay out of the fray.

The FOP now wants an apology from Mayor Fenty who some officers felt sided with the Rawlings family from the beginning, including paying for the funeral, then appearing and speaking at the event;

Other officers had added in private to me that they doubt the officers will be allowed to return to active duty on the streets because, in the least, departmental policy may have been violated by the cops who went to the area, while off duty, in plainclothes while armed,looking for a stolen bicycle.

I think this whole thing stinks to high Heaven. What's more revolting is the neighborhood full of witnesses who initially came forward to tell what happened and how they vanished when it was time to give sworn accounts. "Stop snitching" in reverse. Either way, they're cowards for letting the cops get away with murder... unless they were lying...

I agree that the neighbors should have come forward. However, I also have a problem with police officers shooting someone over a bike. If a citizen had committed the same act they would be in jail for not calling the police and letting them do their jobs. These off-duty officers should have done the same. Additionally, they claimed they feared for their lives. If that's the case, why go seeking the criminal who stole your bike and why be a police officer if you're afraid of a kid?
