In The Closet For Hillary

A glaring horrendous revelation from someone very close to me the other day--she's pulling for (gasp) Hillary Clinton!!
That revelation is "glaring and horrendous" not because of anything Clinton has or hasn't done, but because of African-American reaction to it. According to my friend, who is African-American, other Black folks basically bite her head off when she acknowledges she is not supporting Barack Obama.
"You're not supporting Barack??!!" they say, obviously incredulous that any Black person would consider not voting for the Black candidate. That's why I'm not using her name in this blog--she's hiding out. She is in closet for Hillary.
I understand the feeling. I've written before about how important this candidacy has become to Black Americans. But its deeply ironic to think that for Obama to win, White folks have to buy in to the whole post-racial-bring-us-all-together-thing ...something it appears many Black people haven't quite bought into themselves.
On the other hand...Barack is 'only' getting a bit more than 90 percent of African-American support, so there are at the least several hundred thousand Black Americans who agree with my friend--plenty for a really good-sized support group.

Everyone else --lay off!! This is America, after all.

America (aka mz usa)
You know I'm probably more of a sexist than a racist. I've struggled with "racism", but the more I've considered it the more I realise it is a combination of cultural difference as well as physical (appearance), which are both superficial to me... as I've matured.
Sex is different for me because not only are their physical but hormonal differences which ultimately make for psychological differences. Depending on the circumstance these could be good or bad and don't ask me for specifics.
On the whole, differences are cause for discrimination even within racial groups. We all have discriminated at some point that's a given...
So to me the sentiment: "vote for Obama because he is black!" is not a reason in such an important issue as a Presidential election. It puts it on the level of a popularity contest to me...
You know who I like from previous posts here so I won't sell my candidate. I just hope that people don't use race like it's some automatic decision. That they discriminate with wisdom, because in the end we must discriminate by making a choice.
We will have two...
I'm just glad here in this country we have them, and I hope we all feel that way.
I have gotten so sick of hearing about Clinton and Obama. Enough already! I really don't want to hear another thing about either one of them until the Democrats chose one as their party's candidate in the November election.
I hope that this two year campaign will not become the norm for future elections. It would mean that every two years, we would be suffering through a long drawn out process that isn't necessary.
With all the media coverage, both electronic and paper, we just don't need it. Those people who have not made up their minds by now, never will!
We have a rule that a president can not run for more than two terms in office. Let's also make it a rule that the race can not start more than 10 months before a party's convention. That should be more than enough time.
Old Hand (the last candidate I cared about was JFK)
