GI Bill & Sesame Street

Any news about efforts to do more to help military families is good news to me. 9 NEWS NOW aired two stories today about two very different sources for potential assistance -- the new GI Bill and a Sesame Street program.

Many veterans who have served our country since 9/11 are struggling to go to college on their GI benefits. Unlike the World War II vets, the education assistance available today does not cover the full costs of getting a college degree.

Some veterans of the Iraq and Afghanistan wars rallied on Capitol Hill to call attention to their situation. You see or read more in the 9 NEWS NOW report by Gary Nurenberg. CBS News also had a report today on the GI Bill rally.

On another front, Elmo and Rosita brought smiles to the faces of some children whose parents could soon be far from home serving in Iraq or Afghanistan. The Sesame Street characters are the hosts of a new movie that helps children understand the process of deployment. Sesame Street is sponsoring the multimedia outreach program. 9 NEWS NOW Reporter Brittany Morehouse has more in her report.
