Every Step Counts-March

I am Amy Leone, one of Andrea Roane’s colleagues here at 9NEWS NOW. In October, I will participate in the Breast Cancer 3 Day Walk. It is a walk that takes place over three days in which participates walk 20 miles a day. Each walker also has to raise $2200.
I first took on this challenge in 2005 in Tampa with my mom. We both knew a lot of women in our lives that had battled the disease and wanted to do something to honor them. My grandmother, aunt, godmother and cousin all had breast cancer. Unfortunately my cousin lost her battle at the young age of 30.

We spent the three days walking and talking with amazing women and men! This event is more then a walk it is a life changing experience. At the end of the walk I was ready to go again even with all of my blisters. When I heard there would be a walk in DC, I couldn't wait to sign up. I got some of my friends together and we started a team: “The Pink Panther Ladies.”

Over the next few months, we will take to the trails, walking and training for the big weekend. You can track our progress on Andrea’s BuddyBlog look for my blog “Every Steps Counts.”

Amy I am so proud of you! My Mom is a Breast Cancer survivor. April 1st will be her 6 year mark for being cancer free. I truly appreciate what you are doing for this great cause! Because of people like you, another girl will be able to write a note next year that her mother is a survivor too! And then in years to come, we will have finally kicked this and found the CURE! Go get em!
