The Memorial Services for Drag Racing Victims Begin
Otis Williams will be remembered Thursday night in DC by the underground street racing community of which he was a reliable member, either as a driver or spectator.
The 35 year old Williams of Morningside, Maryland was struck twice Saturday morning while watching an illegal drag race in Accokeek that ended when a third un-invited vehicle mowed down the crowd that had gathered in the street.
Williams, a tractor trailor driver who leaves a fiance and a14 year old daughter was hit a second time by a tractor trailor truck that happened on the scene afterwards and could not avoid the victms and their body parts that covered Route 210 at Pine road.
Meanwhile Prince Georges County Police and State's Attorney Glen Ivey continue their investigations--this after police on Saturday all but cleared the driver-Darren Bullock of any wrongdoing.
They concluded that Bullock, 20 of Waldorf, Maryland was not driving wrecklessly and not responsible for the deaths. The people had gathered in the roadway says Bullock's Uncle who says his nephew claims he was only driving 55 to 60 miles per hour.
Police later admitted that Bullock was driving on a suspended license Saturday--and had gotten numerous speedng tickets prior to the accident. Police, now say it's too early to say if charges will be filed in this case.
Authorities continue to pursue the drivers in the race that proceeded the carnage; Their vehicles were not involved in the killings; but legal minds say there may be a way for prosecutors to bring charges against them, not just for the illegal racing; but for the deaths and that could mean prison tme.
Spectators from the illegal race are not co-operating say sources with names of the drivers.
'These are older men with jobs, families and mortgages" said one spectator who insists that his name not be used. They believe Bullock is to blame for "crashing" their race and they insist he didn't have his lights on and was traveling at a high rate of speed.
Investigators are also looking for a green Crown Vic or something similar that some witnesses say was racing Bullock when his vehicle slammed into the crowd.
Otis Williams will be buried in his hometown of Wilson, North Carolina on Saturday.Another victim from Saturday's accident, "Sport Gardner", will also be buried Saturday in North Carolina.

Well lets start pointing fingers at all the people that were out there knowing damn well they were old enough to know better to be out doing stuff that is against the law.what example was the mother of the child who told everyone she had enough time to get her child out of the way but not her father where is social services at i wonder what kind of other wrong stuff that child is being taught or is around why first of all would you have a child out at that time of morning to watch or be involved with this. Also i am very disappointed in news stations who keep putting the spot light on the driver of the car that hit the people and why everybody that comes on camera that was there is going to say that that boy should be charged for the accident when they were out there knowing it was against the law i think they all should be charged with the deaths if you want to get technical if they were not out there those people would still be here. Also for the people who are coming forward to tell news channels that he was going 80,90 or even 100mph with no head lights on well if they had enough time to see that much details why did they not get out of the way.And everyone is so hurt by this and you are so quick to tell so much why don't you tell everyone who were the drivers of the two cars everyone was watching well you can't say you don't know that night was premedatated so you all knew what you where doing out there and why, so you all need to be charged with the whole accident these are not teenagers out here this are grow people who are well over the age to know better. everyone wants to blame teenagers for all the bad driving habits,or accidents with car insurance going up when it is actualy the older adults that are grandparents that are causing the problems.stop trying to take the spot light off of the criminals that were out there racing or watching the race you all should be on the hot seat i am not saying he should be let off but lets start looking at the people that were out there when they should of not been!everyone is trying to make it seem like he is the only person at fault for this accident when everyone should be the blame so you all are out there step up and be a woman and a men and tell everyone who was the racers.
I have heard about all that I want to on this subject. I feel no sympathy for these people who actively participate in illegal racing and the consequences of this particular race. Daddy used to say "you get what you pay for". These people got what they paid for they became dead. I would just bet someone will post back that what if this happened to you or a member of your family. Well it won't because I and members of my family do not participate in this type or for that matter any illegal activity.
Lets see if I have this right....
Middle of the night
public roadway
illegal racing
spectators participating in illegal racing get killed
Yes I have it right they all lost.
Thank god that no innocent drivers on the road abiding by the law did not get killed. Then this would have been a tradgedy.
I am so sick of these arrogant, evil people spouting off about how happy they are that these people died. Yes, drag racing is very illegal and twice as dangerous, but how dare you damn a dead person this way? Read the comments attached to the story when you get a chance. You'll see what I mean. If any of the posters' relatives died of, say, drunk driving, would they appreciate a bunch of people who didn't know the deceased screaming, "I'M GLAD YOU'RE DEAD, ALKI!!!" or would it add further pain to their already troubling time? I'm sick of these insensitive jerks. At least have some respect for the families. One day everyone will lose someone... if these snakes aren't careful, that someone may be dispatched in a less than dignified way... then it'll be their turn to cry harder for the person they knew but everyone else scorns.
I got a really good question and I hope the investigators read this. If there was so much smoke as the driver says it was, and the cars were doing a "burnout", why weren't none of the street racing cars hit? Also common sense would tell you if you see smoke with the consistency of thick fog, would you not slow down? He would have saw the smoke in my opinion unless he was stupid enough to take chances like that, which he obviously was. I don't know, but we'll just have to wait until the investigation wraps up.
