It's not your father's MVD anymore
Not to date myself but when I applied for a license I went to the MVD, Motor Vehicle Department. I remember one line for everything. You got to wait for an hour or three then you got to wait again after you were sent to the station particular to your needs. I was afraid to ask questions because no one was having any fun and it was doubtful anyone would actually answer your question.

Times have changed. The MVA, Motor Vehicle Administration is now efficient. You can ask someone questions as soon as you walk in so you end up in the correct line right away. The buildings are new, spacious and colorful. I think they had a ban on colors back in my day. It took awhile for my daughter to get her license, yes, she passed on the first attempt but the driving test was a scheduled appointment and the people that work there were helpful and much less dour. My hat's off to the MVA.

Comments:
I grew up in MA and we got our licenses at the Registry of Motor Vehicles - Registry for short. I've lived here in VA for 18 years and sometimes still refer to the DMV as the Registry. My recent trip to the DMV was fairly painless - they've come a long way.

I remember when your girls were born - I've been watching you on channel 9 for that long! Congrats to the one who got her license.

Efficient?! The DMV?! My recent experience at the Springfield DMV was quite different. One hour waiting in line just to get to the front door. One hour sitting and waiting for my number to be called. And, to finish the visit, another hour to complete my transaction at the window. My only point? If you are going to the DMV, bring a book.
