I Did Not Have Sex With That Gay, uh, Man...I mean, uh..

Political Sex Scandal Rule No. 1: If you have to say 'I'm not gay,' you probably are. Especially if you have to say it after a bizarre encounter in a public restroom with an undercover cop. Geez!
Of course I'm talking about Senator Larry Craig, now under fire after pleading guilty this month to charges related to allegedly soliticing sex from another man via a series of arcane signals I daresay most of us had never heard of. (or maybe you've heard of them and I'm just really out of the loop.)
Here's why Craig's ridiculous explanation that he was "misconstrued" makes absolutely no sense at all.
Women may not know this, but for most straight guys bathrooms are scary places. (Gay guys may feel the same way, I just can't speak for them.) You've got to expose your private parts in front of other guys. Therefore we've got lots of rules. If another man is next to you in the urinal you can talk to him, but eye contact is rare and you NEVER EVER look over and down.
And the stalls are even more....sacrosanct is the only word I can think of. NO conversations--heck, you really don't want anyone to see you come out of one.
And that's why Craig's story seems totally unbelievable. According to the cop, Craig was looking at him through the cracks between the stall doors, and then sat down next door and touched the cops foot with his foot!!!
Folks, let me tell you--This is under the category of Never. Would. Happen. Not by accident. No freaking way.
Craig's explanation? I was using a "wide stance." A wide stance? HA! It just doesn't get any funnier than that.
Look here Senator, maybe I'm wrong. Maybe it was all completely innocent.

But if so, you forgot Political Sex Scandal Rule NO. 2: Never give 'em a denial soundbite they can play over and over again to make you look really crazy.

Please focus, Mr. McGinty--the Jena 6, the Jena 6, the Jena 6.....
I agree that the story posted in topix under Derek Mcginty is worth looking at. However it's off topic here, and also up to Derek's supervision.
The story at hand....
Larry Craig, is toast!
He should never admitted guilt to lewd conduct in June. By doing so he left himself open to all sorts of allegations, true or false. He cannot defend himself, he has already admitted guilt. His sexual orientation is not of any consequence now. Game over....
What is interesting about this whole affair is the intensity of the attack. The distancing of his party and friends, and the isolation he now finds himself in.
If anyone felt Micheal Vick was cruel, they have yet to see Washington politics as they devour this poor fool. It should be over fairly quick, that is my hope.
I'd rather read news, and not a story about some one's closet behavior, gossip and scandal. That is tabloid material, not news.
If anything can be learned, never admit you made a mistake, never say you are sorry, the wolves will rip you apart.
I don't defend this guy, not at all. I was shocked by Clinton and Monica as well. I'd be shocked by anyone in a position of power that entertained standards of behavior inconsistent with their level of office. I guess I just hate to read about it, because it displays how weak we are.
power corrupts? Absolutely...
Now the "Family Values" people are abandoning the senator. I have always taken exception to the term ... the notion ... of family values. Maybe this works with the Talibann or Nazi Germany, but we have moved ahead, I hope. By surface examination, I guess I fit the membership profile for the "Family Values Club" but to paraphrase Groucho Marx, I don't want to join.
Senator Craig claims he plead guilty to the charge hoping it would "go away". Some family value that. Sort of "Not In My Back Yard, put the power line in someone else's yard. Don't live under the dam, avoid that underpass, paint the bridge so we don't see the cracks, plant grass on the levee... maybe it will all go away.
If Senator Craig did indeed solicit casual, anonymous, sex, he was guilty of very risky behavior, and could possibly have brought home to his wife a most unwelcome gift. If anything, he is guilty of behavior unbecoming a gentleman and should be scorned for that.
On the Jena 6, we have been thinking about that story a lot but aren't exactly sure how to cover it. Its in Louisiana, so its certainly not local. We can report it, but what then? At this point, I'm open...to ideas.
As for the Senator, I think you phrase it very well...'behavior unbecoming a gentleman.'
Yes I only learned of the Jena 6 from topix. Its not national no, but are civil rights a dead issue?
Move it on up to Katie Couric if wusatv9 can't take the story. It deserves National attention or at least investigation.
But now on topic (for your blog).
Larry Craig is toast. He won't make it to the end of his term.
Standing joke at work is tap dancing lessons in the men's room... or river dance in the stall. We could even work in "singing in the rain".
Watching Craig get ripped apart is almost as unsettling as watching one of Micheal Vick's dog fights. Only I feel more sympathy for Craig than Vick.
Power corrupts? Absolutely!
Yeah well this was over quick, just not painless for Craig.
I feel sorry for Craig, but he deserves to lose his job. Just his family, his life, and his legacy are all now in turmoil.
I was the anonymous poster (above), and yes I can make fun of his situation. I'd rather laugh than cry.
So it goes... will we ever learn?
Not that this is the Jena 6 blog topic,(forgive me). I just saw your mention of the story, and applaud you for it.
There are probably more than a few areas where freedom is a facade, and bigotry flourishes and is supported by a localised culture based on a past tradition of ignorance and injustice.
"I have a dream that one day on the red hills of Georgia the sons of former slaves and the sons of former slave owners will be able to sit down together at the table of brotherhood." {MLK}
If only they did not tear that tree down, so that it could be there for the next generation to make this dream come true.
I'm a dreamer as well.
I'm SCREAMING at work after this one... SERIOUSLY! Please never ever write anything this funny again. Thank you. :-x (and that is my symbol for 'being quiet just to be clear)
